ROSAMOND AYSO REGION 827

FAQ’s:

  • How is the AYSO organization set up?
  • The major organizational breakdown of AYSO includes National, Sections, Areas, then Regions.
  • Rosamond is in Section 10, Area D, Region 827.
  • Each Region has a board of volunteers managing the Regional operations within National guidelines.
  • What does MY2026 mean?
  • Each player and volunteer registers for a 1 year period.
  • MY = Membership Year
  • A membership year extends from August 1st to July 31st.
  • How much are coaches and referees paid?
  • AYSO is a volunteer organization.  Coaches, referees, board members, etc. are not paid.  They are provided training and support, but only paid in our gratitude (and maybe an occasional slice of pizza).
  • When does the season take place?
  • The regular (Fall) season officially starts on August 1st.
  • Teams may begin training together in August.
  • The Fall season game schedule typically begins the Saturday following Labor Day and extends roughly 10-12 weeks (September – November).
  • Teams which qualify for post season play may extend the season longer.
  • Players who are selected and choose to participate in All-Stars could also extend the season.
  • Area Playoff / All-star tournaments are in January – February.
  • Section Playoff / All-Star tournaments are in February – March.
  • What is the difference between the Kickstart, Core, and EPIC programs?
  • Kickstart is for our youngest players learning to be coached, to socialize, and to develop motor skills.  Kickstart is a new program for MY2026.  It will be combining the 6U division and what we used to call Playground into a new program attempting to combined the best of both. Think of it more as Parent-and-me training program. There will be group training and exercises then players are divided into teams for short-sided games in a format specifically designed for their age groups.
  • The AYSO EPIC Program provides athletes with disabilities the additional support they need to fully participate in a quality soccer experience.
  • The Core program is the most common portion of our soccer program.  It is divided into 2 year age groups:  8-and-Under (8U), 10U, 12U, & 14U. Other Regions nearby off "Upper Division" age groups 16U & 19U. Unfortunately, Rosamond does not have the resources to offer upper division play at this time.
  • Checkout our Program Details page for more information and links.
  • How is a player’s “league age” determined?
  • Prior to MY2026, players league age was determined by birth year.
  • As of MY2026, AYSO is returning to age determination closer to school year.  This will mean some returning players will spend a 3rd year in the same division.
  • See the age determination chart for a better break down (Note that we only use the odd-numbered divisions:  8U, 10U, 12U, & 14U).
  • Can a parent/guardian request a player play in different age group?
  • AYSO is committed to Balanced Teams.  If a player would better match with an older division, we might consider moving that player up.  Moving a player down to a younger division presents safety concerns, so for that reason would not be considered.
  • One example to consider:  Moving a player from 12U to 14U opens up safety concerns and may violate National Rules and Regulations in regards to rules on Heading the ball.
  • Can a parent/guardian request a team or coach for their player?
  • Requests for a coach or to keep friends or extended family together are accepted, but not guaranteed.
  • A coach's child is automatically assigned to the coach's team.
  • Are divisions divided by gender?
  • Divisions below 10U are considered “non-competitive” and will generally be co-ed.
  • 10U-14U are competitive divisions and will normally be divided by gender.
  • If a competitive division only has enough players to form a co-ed team, the team will be play in the boys division.
  • What is included with registration fees?
  • Registration fees include jersey, shorts, and socks (Kickstart does not include shorts or socks) as well as a basic picture package and an award (medal or trophy) at the end of the season.
  • Players are expected to provide shin guards (required), a ball (highly desired), and cleats (not required, but recommended).
  • Can a minor be a volunteer?
  • Volunteers placed in a position of responsibility for the team must be at least 18 y/o.  This included Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Parents, etc.
  • Youth referees should be at least 12 y/o and ideally be 2 years older than the division they are refereeing. (This is an EXCELLENT way to get an older sibling, or child who has recently aged out of the program to stay involved and even improve their knowledge of the game to help with their high school or college soccer development. There is no cost to register or train to be a referee. Youth refs can earn volunteer hours for college applications.  There is no requirement to be at the field every single Saturday.  Snacks and lunch are often provided for refs on game days. Maybe you can even volunteer and ref with your child and bond over discussions of the game on the ride home.)
